AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Peninsula all-stars, Shamrock softball, Harris to Texas and summer hoops tourney

Pirate all-stars play Sunday at NWAC tourney

EVERETT — Three Peninsula College basketball players will play in the Northwest Athletic Conference Sophomore All-Star basketball games at Everett Community College on Sunday.

Jenise McKnight and Alicia Dugan will represent the Pirate women on the North-East team in a 9 a.m. game against the South-West All-Stars. The South-West team includes Port Angeles’ Maddy Hinrichs, a Lower Columbia College standout.

Peninsula men’s player Darrion Daniels will play for the North-East squad in the men’s game at 11:15 a.m.

The NWAC’s mens and womens championship games will follow the all-star game.

Shamrock Classic

SEQUIM — A 14-team Shamrock Classic softball tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday at Carrie Blake Park.

Teams from the North Olympic Peninsula, Bremerton and from as far away as Spokane are set to compete in two seven-team upper and lower divisions.

Play gets underway at 8 a.m. Saturday and runs until 6 p.m.

Sunday’s schedule of games will begin at 9 a.m.

More softball tournaments are planned through the summer, organizers said.

Harris to Texas

SEQUIM —Washington Premier FC B99’s Liam Harris of Sequim will head to the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships U18 Division in Frisco, Texas, in July.

Washington Premier, based out of Puyallup, won the Washington Youth Soccer Championship Cup in February and the Far West Regional League and its most recent victory, the national championship title last weekend in Las Vegas. Premier FC went 5-1-1 at the championships.

Harris, last season’s Peninsula Daily News All-Peninsula Boys Soccer MVP, opened his junior season by scoring four goals in Sequim’s 11-1 win over Olympic on Tuesday.

Summer hoops in PA

PORT ANGELES — The Roughrider Summer Classic, a high school boys basketball tournament with junior varsity and varsity divisions, will be held at Port Angeles High School from Friday through Sunday, July 21-23.

Participating teams will receive a four-game guarantee.

Certified officials will referee games featuring two 20-minute long running halves.

The cost is $275 per team, or $500 for two teams.
