AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: PA’s Mishler to row at nationals and updated NODM results — new second place finisher

PORT ANGELES — Nathan Mishler, a member of the Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association and a junior at Port Angeles High School, will row in the 2018 Youth National Championships, in Rancho Cordova, Calif., Friday through Sunday.

Mishler, who will be rowing in the men’s single event at nationals, has been with OPRA for only three years.

Mishler qualified for nationals at the Northwest Regional Championship Regatta in Vancouver, Wash., held May 20-22.

His performance at regionals, missing out on a bronze by just .03 of a second against older rowers, was strong enough to earn him a spot at nationals.

Mishler will also be training in Philadelphia for a month immediately after the nationals races. He will be learning from some top rowing coaches and competing in the Independence Day Regatta and Club Nationals.

There is a GoFundMe account to help Mishler with his travel and training expenses under the name of “Row Nathan.”

People can also send donations to OPRA at P.O. Box 814, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
