AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: PA’s Long, Sequim’s Henninger make All-State for girls’ soccer

Long, Henninger garner All-State soccer honors

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Peninsula’s soccer reputation is growing in the eyes of the Washington State Soccer Coaches Association.

Area standouts Emilia Long and Claire Henninger recently received all-state team recognition from that group.

Long is a second-team Class 2A pick as a midfielder and Sequim’s Claire Henninger is an honorable mention at goalkeeper.

Long led the Olympic League 2A Division in goals (17) and assists (15) and was a first-team All-Olympic League selection. She also was voted All-Peninsula MVP by area coaches and the sports staff of the Peninsula Daily News.

Henninger was a first-team all league pick in goal and a member of the 2017 All-Peninsula girls soccer team. She was the 2016 All-Peninsula MVP.

First pitch banquet

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Roughriders baseball team will kick off the 2018 season with a First Pitch Banquet Auction fundraiser Saturday, March 10.

It will be held at the Chesnut Cottage Restaurant, 929 E. Front St., at 6:30 p.m.

The evening will include a chance to meet the Riders, a spaghetti dinner, raffle giveaways and a chance to bid on silent auction items.

The price is $20 per person with all proceeds support the Port Angeles High School baseball program.

Soccer registration

PORT ANGELES — Registration for the Peninsula Soccer Academy is underway at www.paysc.com.

The spring soccer program is presented by Port Angeles Youth Soccer Club and Peninsula College.

It is designed for players interested in enhancing their soccer skills and knowledge in a non-competitive environment.

Coaching is conducted by Peninsula College soccer coaches and players.

Sessions for U6 and U7 players will be held from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday from April 17 through May 22.

The cost is $45 for U6 and U7 players.

Practices for U8-U11 athletes will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from April 9 through May 31.

And U12-U17 players will train from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from April 9 through May 31.

The cost is $70 for U8 through U17 players.

All sessions will be held at Peninsula College.
