North Olympic 13U raising funds for World Series trip

PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association held its beach sprint regatta at Hollywood Beach this weekend, with Noah Oberly winning three handicap races in the men’s solo boat event.

Beach sprint is a unique event in which competitors have to sprint on the beach to their boat, row a short distance, then return and run back to the finish line.

Oberly won his first race in 3 minutes, 16.11 seconds, with a 3.2-second handicap. He won his second in 2:44.36, also with a 3.2-second handicap. He won a third race in 2:49.69 with a 2.9-second handicap.

Two OPRA five-person teams also competed — one of Ann Patterson, Leggy Helms-DeYoung, Danielle Woodhouse, Alex Francis and Kadence Greul and the other of Owen Jin Standerwick, Eaglevalley Zuniga, Quinn Peterson, Kai Erskine and Christeal Milburn.

There were a total of 37 races in five events. Competitors came from the Puget Sound area and Nanaimo, B.C.
