AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Olympic League cross country runners honored; Sequim’s Hudson is all-conference

All-Olympic harriers named

PORT ANGELES — The Class 1A/2A Olympic League boys and girls cross country all-league teams have been released and include athletes from Port Angeles, Sequim and Port Townsend.

All-league status is awarded to the top 10 boys and girls finishers at the Olympic League Cross Country Championships, which were held last month at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course in Sequim.

Three Port Angeles runners made the girls team, freshman Lauren Larson, senior Madelyn Dougherty and sophomore Ella Holland.

Two Port Townsend athletes made the boys team, sophomore Nathan Cantrell and junior Gabe Petrick.

Sequim junior Murray Bingham also made the boys team for the Wolves.

Hudson honored

SEQUIM — Former Sequim High athlete Hannah Hudson of Menlo College (Calif.) was selected to the All-Golden State Athletic Conference Volleyball team.

Hudson has been the team’s primary libero since transferring to Menlo from Olympic College in 2016.

She also was an All-American in track and field and a member of Olympic’s school-record 4×400 relay team.

Hudson was one of three Oaks to play in every set in 2017, and served as one of the most valuable defenders the Oaks featured.

She won the conference defender of the week award twice this season and led the Oaks in digs with 475. That total was fourth best in the GSAC in both digs and digs per set (4.2). One of the best servers on the team, Hudson finished third best among all Oaks with 46 service aces, which also represented the third-best mark in the GSAC.

Hudson and fourth-seeded Menlo will begin conference tournament play Friday against The Masters University.
