CrossCutters hold baseball tryouts Saturday

SEQUIM — Tryouts for the Olympic CrossCutters select travel baseball team will be held Saturday in Sequim.

Olympic Peninsula baseball players ages 12 to 15 are invited to the tryouts, held at Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Athletes should arrive at least 15 minutes early to register.

Players should bring their gear, including bat, helmet and glove.

The CrossCutters will play in eight to 10 tournaments a season, most in western Washington, from June through September.

Offseason training begins in November at 360 Sports Performance Training, a 5,000 square foot heated and air-conditioned facility in Carlsborg.

Clinics will be conducted with athlets from Base By Pros and practices will be held at Carrie Blake Park.

Program organizers estimate player feets to be around $1,000, and fees will be finalized once teams are established.

Flagler run slated

NORDLAND — As part of Tawan Lamaichampa’s senior project, the Flagler Run will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sep. 9.

Registration will begin at 11 a.m. and admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children for the 5K run at Fort Flagler Historical State Park, 10541 Flagler Road.

Those who preregister have the option to purchase a shirt for $10. To register, visit flaglerrun.wixsite.com, print the registration form and postmark it to 80 River Road, Brinnon, WA, 98320.

Shirts will not be available for day-of registrants.

For entry to the park, attendees will need a Discover Pass for entry for the park, or pay a $10 day-use fee.

The run will be held on Bluff Trail, and participants will have a time limit of 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete the course.

Lamaichampa is a Chimacum High School student with a desire to carry on her older sister Fah’s senior project to help raise awareness — and funds — for hungry children around the globe.

While a portion of the funds will benefit Feed the Children, the rest of the funds will help cover next year’s run, for whomever chooses to assume the role.

Food and water will be provided.
