PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Basketball Officials Association is in need of high school and middle school officials for all sports but specifically for basketball this year.
If people are interested or know someone who is interested, they should contact either Molly Brown at 360-774-6184 or Jacob Asher at 360-565-6094.
There will be training and experience is not necessary as an official or player. People can create their own schedule and they will be paid. The first meeting of the association is Nov. 5.
Shoreline forfeits to PC
PORT ANGELES — Saturday’s Peninsula College women’s soccer match against Shoreline on Saturday has been declared a forfeit, as the Dolphins, who started with a small roster, suffered injuries and announced Monday that they will be unable to complete their season.
The Peninsula College men’s match between Peninsula and Shoreline is still on with a 2:15 p.m. Saturday kickoff at Wally Sigmar Field in Port Angeles.
Both the men and the women are idle on Wednesday.
New assistant AD
PORT ANGELES — Amanda Anderson accepted the position of Peninsula College’s assistant athletic director.
Anderson is moving from a part-time role in athletics and student life into a full-time athletics job.
“Our Pirate athletes, fans and community are certain to enjoy her spin on how we publicize and host games and her vision on how we grow as a department. Thanks for taking this on Amanda,” the school announced on Facebook.
The former assistant athletic director, Jeremiah Johnson, was an employee of the school for 10 years. He also won an NWAC basketball championship playing for the Pirates in 2011. He moved to Utah to take a private sector position.
“[Johnson] is moving on to a new and exciting chapter in his life and leaving behind a wake of great memories, unparalleled advancements in technology and graphic arts, and a work ethic and positive spirt that served as an inspiration to our students, staff and community,” Peninsula College stated.
Latest RPI rankings
OLYMPIA — The latest Ratings Percentage Index numbers from the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association for prep football show that Olympic Peninsula teams are playing some of the toughest schedules in the state.
At the 2A level, Anacortes (6-0) is ranked No. 2, and from the Olympic League, Bremerton is No. 6 and North Kitsap No. 7. At the 3A level, Bainbridge (5-1) is ranked No. 11.
Port Angeles (3-3) is ranked No. 24 because of its tough schedule. The Roughriders have lost to three of these teams and plays Bainbridge on Friday. The Riders finish their season against North Mason and Kingston and have a solid shot at the postseason.
Sequim (1-4) must still play North Kitsap and Bremerton. The Wolves have lost to Bainbridge and to Forks, which is ranked No. 6 at the 2B level. The schools have eight games combined against top 11-ranked teams.
Forks (5-1) must still play No. 4-ranked Napavine (5-1) and No. 11 Pe Ell/Willapa Valley (4-2). The Spartans’ only loss this season was to No. 5 Raymond (4-1).
Neah Bay (3-2) is ranked No. 14 at the 1B level. The Red Devils host No. 5-ranked Darrington (6-0) on Friday.
Neah Bay also lost to No. 1-ranked and defending champion Liberty Bell. Liberty Christian, which the Red Devils beat last year in the state playoffs, is ranked No. 2. Quilcene (1-4) is ranked No. 29 and Crescent (2-3) No. 36.
In volleyball, Neah Bay (6-0) is ranked No. 1 in the state.
