Women’s hoops league forming in Port Angeles
PORT ANGELES — Registration is open for the Port Angeles Parks & Recreation Department’s Women’s Basketball League.
Women ages 16 and older are eligible to participate.
The season will begin April 8 or 15th with games held at Roosevelt Elementary School and the Vern Burton Community Center.
The cost to register a team is $400 and the deadline to register is March 22.
Players without a team can call Dan Estes at 360-417-4557 and ask to be placed on a free agent list.

Roller derby bout
SEQUIM — Port Scandalous Roller Derby’s eighth season opener will be held Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St., with doors at 5:30 p.m. and the bout starting at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for ages 7-12, military members and seniors, and free for ages 6 and younger.
A beer garden will be available for ages 21 and older with ID.
Merchandise will be on sale and a 50/50 raffle will be held.
Nicholls honored
SEOUL — Port Angeles martial arts expert Robert Nicholls was part of a group of American masters and grandmasters honored by Jidokwan, the most successful full-contact school in the history of taekwondo, at the school’s annual world conference earlier this month.
Nicholls, owner of White Crane Martial Arts, became just the 362nd “chief grandmaster” 9th dan in the history of the Jidokwan, or “House of the Way of Wisdom.”
The group also met with the president of World Taekwondo at the headquarters in Kukkiwon, toured the Royal Palace in Seoul and had several special dinners with the secretary generals of both the Jidokwan and another famous house, MooDukKwan.
Grandmaster Lim Dong-Kyun in Korea and Grandmaster Scott Rohr in Thailand, who arranged the event for the Americans, are now in preparation for bringing the famous Hodori “Tiger Cubs” team back to Port Angeles where they will perform at Peninsula College on Aug. 4.
The team, consisting of junior black belt champions from the greater Seoul area aged 8 to 14 years, perform traditional martial arts along with modern acrobatic board breaking, martial art dance routines and a wide variety of entertaining demonstrations. They have demonstrated in Port Angeles twice before, in 2011 and 2015.
