BMXers fare well at state championship

RICHLAND — Lincoln Park BMX cyclists competed in 100-degree heat at the Washington State BMX Championship in Richland last weekend.

Three racers won titles at the event — Anthony Jones was first in the 9 Intermediate division, Jaiden Albin won the 15 Intermediate competition and Taylor Coleman was first in the 13 Girls race and third in the 13-14 Girls Cruiser event.

Brian Belbin was third in the 10 Intermediate, Max Ray-Frankforth finished third in 11 Novice and George Williams was third in 61 and Over Cruiser.

Josh Garrett came in fourth in the 13 Intermediate and Cory Cooke placed fourth in 17-18 Expert.

Justin Garrett earned sixth in 10 Intermediate.

Sequim’s Joseph Pinell was fifth in 13 Intermediate, while Zach Pinell finished eighth in 11 Intermediate.

Snipe wins medals

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Dr. Ron Snipe earned six gold medals at the State Games of America in Grand Rapids, Mich. last month.

Snipe, a retired teacher from Port Angeles, won the 100-meter breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 200 breast and 200 back in the long course in a 50-meter pool and the 100 back and 200 breast in the short course in a 25-yard pool.

Snipe has now earned 20 national titles since 2009 in the various State Games of America swimming events. The State Games of America are held every two years with the next one in Lynchburg, Va. in 2019.

Softball tourney

FORKS — The 30th annual West End Invitational Coed Softball Tournament will be held all day Saturday and Sunday at the Tillicum Park ball fields.
