Lincoln Park BMXer earns top 3 at Worlds
GLASGOW, Scotland — Lincoln Park BMX cyclist Wyatt Christensen traveled across the globe and returned with a third-place finish in the 11-year old Boys Division at the UCI World BMX Championships held last week.
Christensen raced against 104 top 11-year olds from across the world, improving upon his eighth-place ranking in 2022.
He only lost one lap during the competition and that came in the main event.
Christensen, who lives in Kingston but races out of Lincoln Park BMX in Port Angeles, is currently sitting No. 3 out of 6,113 boys in the USA BMX rankings in the United States.
He will compete for the No. 1 ranking at the USA BMX Grand Nationals in Tulsa, Okla. from Nov. 22-26.
His 8-year old sister Elinor also competed at the World Championships, finishing 10th out of 43 girls in the 9-year old Division.
Another state racer, reigning World No. 1 Sean Day, 16, of Tacoma, held on to his No. 1 ranking with a repeat title this year.
Salt Creek 24 slated
PORT ANGELES — Salt Creek 24, a 24-hour endurance run/walk on a 1.3-mile circuit of Salt Creek Recreation Area, is set Oct. 28-29.
Individuals can choose to complete as many laps as they want, when they want over a 24-hour period.
Round-the-clock activities are planned, door prizes will be given out and a poker run hour is planned.
Participants can choose to fundraise for a chosen charity partner or a charity of their choice during registration — collecting pledges per lap a la “Relay for Life.”
The event also includes an endurance competition, the Last Runner Standing event.
Racers will summit Striped Peak and it’s 1,000-feet elevation gain, each hour, on the hour, until all racers have dropped out — the one that sticks it out the longest is the winner.
Runners who finish the Striped Peak loop before the hour is up, that is how long you get to rest.
If there is more than one runner left at hour 24, one last lap will be completed and the fastest runner will win.
The main course is an out-and-back 1,000-foot climb on single-track trail, switching to a trail/road loop after dark, and back to the out-and-back at sunrise.
Fees are $85 for single entrants and Last Runner Standing competitors and $65 per relay team member.

5K Fun Walk Saturday
SEQUIM — Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic/The Sequim Free Clinic will once again hold its annual 5K Fun Walk at 10 a.m. Aug. 12, starting at the Sequim Medical Plaza at 777 N. 5th Ave. in Sequim.
This is the clinic’s only fundraiser of the year. The event is free to all.
Donations are welcome, but not required.
People can walk the course if they prefer. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. for individuals, families and teams who choose to walk or run from the clinic to West Hendrickson Road and on the Discovery Trail to the Dungeness River Bridge and back. All pets must be leashed on the walk.
After the walk, people can take time to visit the clinic’s health fair. There will be screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar and oxygen saturation.
