AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Lincoln Park BMX to host Gold Cup finals

PORT ANGELES — Lincoln Park BMX and the Port Angeles Parks and Rec Department announced this week that they will be hosting the USA BMX Gold Cup finals on Sept. 15-18.

The competition will include participants of all ages, who will come from all over the Pacific Northwest to take on the Lincoln Park BMX Track.

This event is expected to bring a total of 2,000 racers into the community for three days of competition with a projected attendance of 6,000 to 7,000 people.

“This race is as much for the riders who have never experienced racing in Port Angeles as it is the local novice rider who has never experienced a large race. All skills and all riders welcome. No one sits on the bench,” said track operator Sean Coleman in a release.

In 2019, the park hosted 22,000 attendees and 21,000 in 2021. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the track hosted 4,472 attendees in 2020. The Lincoln Park BMX track has been involved in local events such as the Big Hurt, the NW Cup and Ride the Hurricane.
