Lincoln BMX to host state series races
PORT ANGELES — More than 300 BMX riders from the Olympic Peninsula and surrounding areas are expected to descend upon Port Angeles this weekend for a Washington State Championship Series race.
The USABMX Washington State Championship Series includes 12 races from around the state from March until August. Lincoln Park BMX is hosting the seventh race in this series Sunday. Lincoln Park is also hosting the Washington State Finals for the second straight year Aug. 24-25.
Lincoln Park BMX operator Sean Coleman said that since improvements were made to the park, use has gone up dramatically, between 30 percent to 40 percent over last year.
Coleman said anyone can show up and race in the single point races on Friday night with signups beginning at 6 p.m. The cost is $10 per rider.
On Saturday, there will be double-point races with signups from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (cost is $20 per rider.). On Sunday, the double point state qualifier races will be held with signups from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Cost is $25 per rider. There will be triple-point finals on Sunday afternoon, as well.
Proceeds from Saturday’s races go toward Race for Life and the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society. Last year, Lincoln Park BMX raised $4,000 for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.
