AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Lefties, Extreme Sports Park launching Baseball Golf Thursday

New WCL team in Kamloops, B.C.

PORT ANGELES — Baseball Golf, a new way to get outside and be active, begins this afternoon at Extreme Sports Park, 2917 W. Edgewood Drive.

The new game is presented by the Port Angeles Lefties and Extreme Sports Park.

Sessions will be available from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

It seeks to replace the frustration of golf with the addition of the joy of the baseball swing and the sound of the crack of the bat.

Players will follow basic golf rules except the holes are above ground.

Duos or groups of up to four people will be allowed per tee time, and plenty of social-distancing space is available as the course’s nine-hole layout is spread throughout the 100-plus-acre Extreme Sports Park property.

The cost is $10 per person per round. Equipmental rentals of bats and baseballs will be available.

Adult beverages will be available for ages 21 and older.

To set a tee time, email PABaseballGolf@gmail.com.

Kamloops joins WCL

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The Port Angeles Lefties have some more competition north of the border.

The West Coast League welcomed the Kamloops NorthPaws on Wednesday as the second expansion team slated to begin play during the summer of 2021, joining the previously announced Nanaimo NightOwls and bringing the number of teams playing in the collegiate summer baseball league to 14.

“As Canada’s ‘Tournament Capital,’ Kamloops is obviously a hotbed for amateur sports in British Columbia, so collegiate summer ball is a perfect fit,” said WCL commissioner Rob Neyer.

“Our group is thrilled to bring the West Coast League to Kamloops,” said Norm Daley, one of the NorthPaws’ owners. “This league is one of the premier collegiate summer leagues in North America and the skill level is incredible, so fans will experience an elevated level of play at Norbrock Stadium next summer.”

Other NorthPaws owners include Neal Perry and Jon Pankuch.
