AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Last Man Standing went 66 miles and 19,000 vertical feet

SALT CREEK — Brandon Morales won this year’s Last Man Standing event, part of Peninsula Adventure Sports’ Salt Creek 24.

In the Last Man Standing, 13 competitors, 11 men and two women, ran up and down the 3.7-mile-long trail to the top of 1,100-foot-high Striped Peak, which is adjacent to the Salt Creek Recreation Area.

Morales went an incredible 16 hours and 51 minutes, finishing at 1:51 a.m. Sunday. He ran 66.6 miles and climbed more than 19,000 vertical feet.

Soccer league results

PORT ANGELES — Strait Slice moved into a tie for first place in the Peninsula Soccer League, getting past Los Primos 3-2 while High Energy Metals was shut out by Forks FC 6-0.

High Energy Metals has been leading the league most of the season. Strait Slice and High Energy Metals have identical records at 7-1-1 (22 points), while Forks FC is right behind the frontrunners at 7-2-0 (21 points). Salazar Painting is fourth at 6-2-1 (19 points).

It was a week of big scorers with a total of five players getting at least a hat trick in goals.

Hugo Sandoval, leading the Peninsula Soccer League in goals, scored four goals against High Energy Metals. Lili Galiana added two goals and Jesus Ayala had one.

In the Strait Slice game, Jay Marazon, Sam Havens and Jimmy Quigly all scored goals for Strait Slice.

In other games, Salazar Painting beat Pantry & Latch 8-1 as Pablo Salazar scored five goals and Rafael Flores had a hat trick with three goals. Matt Heinen scored Pantry & Latch’s goal.

Bandidos FC beat Windermere 4-3. Chris Lopes knocked in two goals for Bandidos, while Jordan Swift and Rachel Peck each had one. For Windermere Stewart Methner had a hat trick.

Meyer Electric beat Ediz Hook FC 8-0. Josiah Long had four goals and Brandon Wagner two. Dru Clark and Ron Welches each scored a goal.
