POCATELLO, Idaho — Connor DeWolf and Liam DeWolf of Klahhane Gymnastics competed in Region 2 Men’s Gymnastics Championships held Friday through Sunday at the Mountain View Event Center in Pocatello.
The event included gymnasts representing clubs from Washington, Alaska, Idaho, Montana and Oregon.
Liam DeWolf, competing in Level 8, finished third all-around in the 13-year-old age group and ninth overall, scored 68.700 over six events using international FIG Rules. He won two event medals, the gold medal on high bar with a score of 12.050 and silver on pommel horse with a score of 11.900.
Connor DeWolf, competing in Level 9, finished eighth in the 14-year-old age group and 27th overall with a score of 63.700. He also took a silver medal on the pommel horse with a score of 10.500. Both boys advanced by allocation to the USAG Developmental Western National Championships to be held at the Reno Events Center from April 29-May 1.
Adult soccer league
PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Soccer League kicked off its spring season Sunday with Windermere, Strait Slice, High Energy Metal and Pura Vida all recording wins.
Windermere stopped Pantry & Latch 4-1, getting goals from Alex Lopez, Ben Schneider, Ted Nowak and Derek Schumacher. Jeri Boe contributed an assist.
Strait Slice blanked Forks FC 1-0 with Casey Shea’s lone goal holding up for the win.
High Energy Metal scored early and often in a 6-1 romp over Bandidos FC, with goals from Ben Salgado, Vianey Cadenas, Chris Hartman, Jake Hughes and two from Jack Waknitz. Jess Salgado had an assist. For the Bandidos, Chris Lopes scored their lone goal.
In the final match of the day, Pura Vida got by Salazar Painting LLC 3-2. Pura Vida got two goals from Javier Gomez and a goal from Juan Gonzalez. Mario Gonzalez also picked up an assist.
The league is for coed adults and sponsored by Peninsula College.
Future Stars Bowl
PORT ANGELES — A huge concentration of the best football talent on the Olympic Peninsula has been selected to play in the Dream All-American Future Stars Bowl in Dallas on June 12.
A total of 22 players were selected from Forks, Neah Bay, Port Angeles and Sequim. They will be joining the rest of the nation’s best football talent to compete in this three-day-long event at AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys.
Locally recruited players have had this unique opportunity as a youth and Port Angeles High School assistant football coach and former college player Sambreezie Salanoa is also the state director for Dream Sports and a recruiter for the All Dream American Games.
“These players have been putting in a tremendous amount of extra work every week. Seeing this kind of work ethic is incredible in such young athletes. The future of Olympic Peninsula football looks bright,” said Troy Free, Port Angeles Future Riders president.
