AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Klahhane gymnasts bound for regional and state meets

PORT ANGELES — Athletes from Klahhane Gymnastics tuned up for championship meets coming up next month with a pair of meets this past weekend.

The boys team of Connor DeWolf and Liam DeWolf attended the Washington Boys State Meet at the Walt Price Fitness Center at Everett Community College. Conner DeWolf, competing in Level 9, finished first in floor exercise, second in the vault, third on the pommel horse and fourth all-around.

Liam DeWolf, competing in Level 8, finished third on parallel bars, floor exercise and vault, scoring a 67.40 all-around for fourth place.

Both boys have qualified to the Region 2 Men’s Championships to be held April 8-10 in Pocatello, Idaho.

Meanwhile, the girls Xcel Team competed at the Skookum Showdown at the Little Creek Events Center in Shelton.

In Saturday competition in the gold division, Mariah Trabanc was second in the CH A age group with a score of 35.40. Talor Bugge had the top score of the team of 35.80 for fourth place in the SR A age group. She was followed by Neveah Thurman-Dupuis with 35.65, good for fourth in the CH B age group.

Also competing n the gold division were Kira Hartman with a 35.45 and Lucy Spelker (34.65). In the Platinum Division, Scarlett Sullivan scored 35.525, good for fourth place all-around.

In the Sunday competition in the silver division, Saffron Tschida (CH B) led the team scoring with 36.65, good for sixth all-around in a tough age group.

Elyse Brown (CH C) and Daylen Williams (JR C) both scored 36.40 and came in fourth all-around in their divisions. Also competing were Harper Hilliker (CH B) with a gold medal on vault (9.3) and a silver in the all-around with a 36.25.

Raynee Chiarlo (CH C) captured a gold medal on the bars, scoring 9.55, and Gracelyn Goss (CH B) a silver on the bars with a 9.20.

All the members of the Xcel Team have qualified to the Washington State Xcel Championships April 1-3 at the state fairgrounds in Puyallup.

PC holds spring leagues

PORT ANGELES — Adults wanting to play soccer or basketball this spring can take advantage of leagues that start in April at Peninsula College.

The Peninsula Soccer League, a co-ed league for adults 16 and older, gets underway April 10 at Wally Sigmar Field with matches on Sundays through May. The registration fee is $45 per player and captains can reserve their spot by contacting Jake Hughes at jahughes@pencol.edu. The registration deadline is April 1.

The Peninsula Basketball League will host a women’s 4-on-4 spring league on Tuesdays and a men’s 4-on-4 league on Thursdays, starting April 12 and April 14. The registration fee is $250 per team and the deadline is April 8. Captains can reserve their spot for the women’s league by contacting Alison Crumb at acrumb@pencol.edu and the men’s league by contacting Donald Rollman at drollman@pencol.edu.
