PORT ANGELES — There will be a 5K and 10K family-friendly fun run on July 4 along the Olympic Discovery trail on the Port Angeles waterfront to raise proceeds for the Hurricane Ridge Ski and Snowboard team.
The run will begin at 1 p.m. Registration is the day of the race and check-in will open at 11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for the most festive Independence Day attire as well as for fastest girl or woman and fastest boy or man.
All participants will receive some prizes and swag. Youth participants will receive a complimentary frozen dessert afterward and participants 21 and over will receive a complimentary beer at the Crabhouse Restaurant.
Cost is $25 for adults and $10 for youths age 7 to 20. Kids 6 and under can participate for free. Cash, check and credit cards accepted.
The race route will begin and end on the waterfront trail, just in front of the Red Lion Hotel and Crabhouse Restaurant. It will be an out and back run, with runners running east to begin with.

Big Hurt prices remain same until July 5
PORT ANGELES — Participants in the Big Hurt race this fall can still get early prices through a special offer ending July 4.
If racers register between now and midnight Wednesday, they will still get the best price of $90 for the iron categories, $120 for the tandem and high school teams and $240 for teams.
After midnight Wednesday, prices will go up to $95 for the iron categories, $125 for tandem and high school teams and $250 for teams. After August 31, the prices will go up again to $100 for the iron categories, $130 for the tandem and high school teams and $260 for other teams.
You do not need to have team names yet, but you do need to know the team captain and t-shirt sizes. T-shirt sizes can be changed later if necessary when team members are finalized.
The big hurt is a four-discipline race on September 22 with a mountain biking (15 miles), kayaking (3 miles), road cycling (30 miles) and running (10K) in and around the Port Angeles area.
