AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Henninger GNAC Defensive Player of the Year

BELLINGHAM — Led by senior goalkeeper Claire Henninger being selected as the Defensive Player of the Year, the Western Washington University women’s soccer team had seven players selected to the 2023 Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Conference team.

Henninger, a senior goalkeeper from Sequim, became the seventh Viking to earn the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year award in 13 years. She is also just the second goalkeeper to earn the award, joining first-year winner Maddie Dickinson from Seattle Pacific. Henninger, who helped lead Western Washington to a national championship last year, was also a unanimous First Team All-GNAC selection while leading the league with the lowest goals against average (0.496), highest save percentage (.857) and tied for the most shutouts (9).

Also joining Henninger as First Team All-GNAC selections were sophomore midfielder Morgan Manalili and sophomore defender Asia Hardin.

Free golf event

SEQUIM — The Cedars at Dungeness, in coordination with 7 Cedars Resort, announced that there will be free golf and free carts to all patrons this Thanksgiving.

7 Cedars Resort will sponsor the event to anyone that plays on Nov. 23, Thanksgiving Day, in exchange for a non-perishable food item.
