Future Riders win

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Future Riders won a pair of North Olympic Youth Football season openers over the Port Townsend Braves.

Quarterback Kade Acker threw for more than 100 yards in the B-squad contest, including a 20-yard pass to Asher Irvine. Irvine later scored on a 35-yard touchdown run as the Future Riders won 34-0.

Cannon Free had five sacks on defense, three of which resulted in fumbles recovered by Free.

Hunter Stone ran for more than 120 yards and three touchdowns as the Future Riders C-squad also won by a 34-0 score.

Conrad Kussin rushed for 45 yards and was a dominating force on defense for Port Angeles, totaling four sacks in the win.

Trail Blaze Ball

CHIMACUM — The fifth annual Trail Blaze Ball, a fundraiser for the Olympic Discovery Trail, will be held Saturday at Finnriver Cidery, 124 Center Road, in Chimacum.

The event boasts multiple live bands, including a performance by the rock and soul Freddy Pink Band, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Gourmet food trucks will sell their wares and vendors will offer items for purchase.

Live and silent auctions are planned.

Bidding begins at 5 p.m.

Suggested donation is $25 and tickets can be purchased in advance at brownpapertickets.com for $27.24 with service fees.

Proceeds will go toward completing a stretch of trail from near Four Corners Road to Anderson Lake State Park.

Oyster races set

QUILCENE — The Quilcene Oyster Races are scheduled for Sunday, with half-marathon, 10K and 5K run/walk options.

Cost is $60 for the half-marathon, $40 for the 10k and $30 for the 5K. Fees include a race finisher medal, one serving of local oysters after the race, one local craft beer (21 and older) and a free open house event at Worthington Mansion.
