AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Former Roughrider Clark starring in college for the Penguins

VANCOUVER — In his sophomore season, Liam Clark has been a productive Penguin for the Clark College men’s basketball team.

Clark, a 2019 Port Angeles High School graduate and the 2018 All-Peninsula Boys Basketball MVP, is averaging 10.9 points and 5.6 rebounds in eight appearances this season.

Clark had a season-high 25 points on 12 of 14 shooting earlier in the season against Columbia Basin. Last week, Clark helped the Penguins to a 2-1 record in tournament play.

Clark posted 16 points and eight rebounds in a 93-82 win over Blue Mountain.

He followed that up with a 20-point, 15-rebound performance in a 97-81 win over South Puget Sound. Clark was an efficient scorer again, hitting 10 of 12 shots in the victory.

Clark College is a community college in Vancouver.

Clark is the son of Jeff and Hellen Clark.

Little Dribblers

PORT ANGELES — Children in kindergarten through third grade can participate in a six-week Little Dribblers Basketball Clinic offered by members of the Peninsula College men’s basketball team and coaching staff.

Attendees will learn basic basketball and team-building skills with passing, shooting and ball handling taught using games and drills.

The clinic will be held at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Sundays from Jan. 9-23 and again from Feb. 6-20.

A kindergarten and first-grade session will run from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Second- and third-graders will practice from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Masks will be required of everyone in the gym, including the children on the court.

Players should bring an age-appropriate basketball and their own water bottle.

The cost is $45 per participant and each child will receive a T-shirt.

Early bird discounts

SEQUIM — Sequim Little League is offering early bird discounts on its T-ball and prep through seniors baseball and softball options.

Now through Dec. 31, registration is $60 for T-ball and $85 for prep through seniors play.

Beginning Jan. 1, registration will be $75 for T-ball and $100 for prep through seniors.

Opening Day 2022 is slated for March 26 at the Sequim Little League Fields, 124 Silberhorn Road.
