FORKS — A pair of Forks cheerleaders are raising money to help pay for their trip to Oahu in December to be part of the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Honolulu on Dec. 7.
Danikka King and Libby Owen of Forks will represent Varsity Spirit, which runs cheerleading and dance team camps and competitions.
Cheerleaders and dancers who are invited to perform in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade are part of a select group of All-Americans identified at Varsity Spirit summer camps across the country. All-Americans are based on superior cheerleading or dance skills as well as leadership skills at camps operated by Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), Universal Dance Association (UDA), National Cheerleaders Association (NCA), National Dance Alliance (NDA), United Spirit Association (USA) or Urban Cheerleading Experience (UCE).
Forks cheer squad members attended the UCA/UDA/NCA/NDA/USA/UCE Camp at Great Wolf Lodge in Centralia on July 14-17. Only the top 12 percent of the cheerleaders and dancers from Varsity Spirit camps earn the chance to participate in a performance of this caliber.
“We’re excited to welcome these exceptional athletes to Honolulu for an unforgettable experience,” said Bill Seely, president of Varsity Spirit. “It’s a privilege to offer them the chance to perform in such a stunning setting, connect with peers from across the country, and be part of a celebration that highlights their talent on the beautiful island of Oahu.”
The pair will perform with Varsity Spirit All-Americans in the parade before thousands of people lining the streets of Waikiki Beach. This trip will mark the 84th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
In addition to performing, athletes will have the opportunity to meet cheerleaders and dancers from across that nation and enjoy a traditional Hawaiian luau and a memorable trip to the Pearl Harbor Memorial and the USS Missouri.
The girls are looking to raise $2,200 for the trip. So far, they have raised $1,470 through GoFundMe. The GoFundMe page can be found at www.tinyurl.com/PearlHarbor2025.

Registration open
PORT ANGELES — Registration is open for the fall adult coed volleyball and soccer leagues, hosted each year by Peninsula College.
The soccer league kicks off on Sept. 7. The league is open to the first 10 teams with paid registration. Team captains are encouraged to contact league director Jake Hughes at jahughes@pencol.edu. Players wishing to get on a team also can reach out to Hughes.
The volleyball league will begin play on Sept. 16. Team captains can secure their place in the league, and individuals who want to land on teams can do so by contacting Rick Ross at rross@pencol.edu.
The fee for both leagues is $50 per player. The adult leagues are limited to players 16 and older. Every effort will be made to get individuals on teams, but those individuals should wait to register until they are connected with a team.
