4th of July fun run set for Forks

FORKS — A 4th of July Fun Run featuring 5-and 10-kilometer races will be held on the holiday in Forks.

The event is a benefit for the Forks High School boys basketball program.

Registration opens at 8:30 a.m.

Runners and walkers will start at 9 a.m. at the gravel parking lot in the middle of town across from the Forks Coffee Shop.

Preregistration is $20 for those who would like a T-shirt.

Those who just want to race are $10.

Kids 12 and younger are free.

Youth rowing

PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association will offer a series of youth rowing sessions for boys and girls ages 11 to 18.

These introductory camps are perfect for anyone looking to try out thesport, either just for fun or as a precursor to trying out for the school-year club team.

Over the course of the five-day camp, novice rowers will learn basic stroke mechanics, boat handling, and terminology, and will take their first strokes in a racing shell.

Each camp will run from 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.

They are scheduled for July 11-15, July 18-22, Aug. 8-12 and Aug. 15-19.

The cost is $75 per session.

PA volleyball camp

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles High School will hold a volleyball camp for young players July 11-14.

The camp will be in the school gym and will be coached by Port Angeles head coach Christine Halberg and Roughriders players.

Campers will learn fundamental skills such as hitting, passing, serving and setting, while also working on agility and quickness, learning rules and regulations and participating in competitions and games with prizes.

The cost is $50 per player. Campers will receive a T-shirt if they register by Thursday.

The camp will have two sessions, divided by age group:

■ Incoming kindergarten through fifth-graders: 9 a.m. to noon.

■ Incoming sixth- through ninth-graders: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
