PORT ANGELES — Registration for fall Port Angeles Youth Soccer Club is now open.
All sessions for U5/U6 and U7 will be held at Peninsula College with an Academy-style format. Dates and times for games will be determined.
U8 to U15 games will take place on Saturdays from Sept. 10 to Nov. 5 at various field locations around Port Angeles and Sequim.
The registration fee is $65 per player for all age groups and registration will be closed on Aug. 1. Coaches are also needed for the 2022 season. Coaches receive a special discount while registering their children.
The club has also moved to a new online home at Stack Sports with an updated registration process. People can visit https://clubs.bluesombrero.com/paysc to begin registration.
Toutle’s Cox drafted
TOUTLE LAKE — A very familiar foe for Forks baseball players was selected in the second round in the Major League Baseball draft.
Toutle Lake’s Jackson Cox was the 50th overall pick by the Colorado Rockies. Cox has also committed to play baseball for the University of Oregon. Cox can choose to attend Oregon and wait and see if he will be drafted again at a higher spot or take a likely large signing bonus as a second-round pick this year.
Forks played Toutle Lake in the opening game of the state 2B baseball tournament back in May. Cox and Spartans pitcher Logan Olson faced off in a pitchers’ duel won by Cox and Toutle Lake by a score of 4-0. Cox pitched a 7-inning perfect game with no hits and no walks. He struck out 15 Spartans. Olson, the Pacific 2B League MVP, managed to match Cox nearly pitch-for-pitch for five-plus innings, but Toutle Lake finally broke through for four runs in the sixth inning. Olson ended up going 5⅔ innings, giving up three hits and five walks while striking out nine.
Cox also beat the Spartans in the postseason in 2021, giving up one run and three hits while striking out 15 in a 2-1 Toutle Lake win.
Discovery Bay golf
SEQUIM — Thirteen women golfers played last Thursday on a beautiful day. In preparation for an upcoming match play tournament with the women of Cedars at Dungeness, the Discovery Bay club played match play format. The winner of each match paid the loser $2.
Jane Peoples, tournament committee chair, has been planning the July 21 tournament. The club has 12 players signed up to play against 12 from the Cedars at Dungeness. It will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. and there will be a celebration with lunch after the round. Lynn Pierle has agreed to procure lunch.
There will be a Memorial Tournament which Discovery Bay is hosting this year on Aug. 2. This is the annual tournament with the Port Townsend Women’s club (many women belong to both clubs). This tournament remembers and celebrates women we have lost who played with the clubs in past years.
