AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Equitese Pony Club members get certified

Ski, swim lessons being offered

PORT TOWNSEND — Youth members of Equitese Pony Club trained throughout the summer and fall months for fall certifications offered by the United States Pony Club, recently earning those certifications in examinations that tested candidates against pony club standards.

Eight club members shared their knowledge of horses, answering questions on the correct and safe way to feed a horse, when and why to call a vet and correctly naming the body parts of a horse and the parts of an English saddle and bridle during a recent certification session.

Club members also showcased their riding skills at walk, trot and canter inside and outside of the horse arena.

EPC’s newest D1-rated horse management and riding members are Adelynn Yep, Addison Staley, Hazel Windstorm, Kaleigh Sukert and Kaetyn Riley. Ila Patric received her D2 rating in horse management, while Madi Darrington and Molly Lance earned the D2 rating in both horse management and riding on the flat.

Port Townsend-area equestrian training center Heron Pond Farm provided its facility, structure and support to club members during preparations for the certifications.
