AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: East Jefferson’s Vandenberg makes first team All-Nisqually

SILVERDALE — East Jefferson’s Alyssa Vandenberg, the leading scorer for the Rivals, made the first team All-Nisqually League girls basketball team.

Making the second team was Vandenberg’s teammate Kay Botkin. Vandenberg and Botkin led the Rivals to their first playoff appearance since the Chimacum and Port Townsend sports programs were combined in 2020.

The league MVP was Kiana Skogstad, a freshman with Bellevue Christian. Coach of the year was Joseph Lawyer of Life Christian and Vashon was awarded the team sportsmanship award.

Nisqually boys

SILVERDALE — East Jefferson’s Keidan Guzman, the team’s leading scorer, and guard Brody Moore made the All-Nisqually League boys basketball second team.

Their Rivals’ teammate Stuart Dow, a shot-blocking specialist, made the honorable mention team. Guzman, Moore and Dow led the Rivals to their first playoff berth.

Jordan Clark of Seattle Christian was named the Nisqually League MVP, while Jasen Baskett of Seattle Christian and Dominique Williams of Annie Wright were named co-coaches of the year. Cascade Christian was given the league’s sportsmanship award.

Nisqually wrestling

SILVERDALE — East Jefferson got several boys and girls on the Nisqually League all-wrestling squads.

Making the all-league boys team were Manaseh Lanphear-Ramirez (145 pounds), Jameson Henery (152) and Grady White (126) of East Jefferson. All three wrestlers qualified for the Mat Classic state wrestling championships held in February.

Making the all-league girls team were Mi Amada Lanphear-Ramirez (115), Chloe Lampert (120), Ivy Hill (135) and Melody Douglas (155). All four girls qualified for the Mat Classic state wrestling championshiops, with Lanphear-Ramirez finishing third in the state at 115 pounds.
