Crab Fest 5K supports PC athletics
PORT ANGELES — The Crab Fest 5K Fun Run will be held along the Olympic Discovery Trail along the Port Angeles waterfront Saturday, Oct. 9.
Proceeds will support Peninsula College athletics.
The race will begin at 11 a.m. in front of the Red Lion Hotel at Port Angeles City Pier.
Registration is $35 and includes a Pirate/Crab Festival pint glass, a $4 discount on a crab dinner and free entry into the Crab Derby.
The male and female race winners will receive a crab dinner.
All ages are eligible to participate, and dogs and strollers are welcome.

Open mat wrestling
PORT ANGELES — Open mat workouts for potential Port Angeles High School wrestlers in grades 9-12 will begin Oct. 11.
The sessions will run Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Future Riders football
FORKS — Smash mouth, physical football ruled the day in three North Olympic Youth Football League contests between the Port Angeles Future Riders and the Forks Spartans.
The Future Riders C squad earned a hard-fought 13-0 win in a defensive contest.
Blake Botero and Henry Fors were crucial defensively in keeping Forks out of the end zone.
Connor Eaton led the offense, scoring a touchdown that put Port Angeles on the scoreboard and changed the morale for the Riders for the rest of the game.
In a grueling, physical game, the Port Angeles B squad posted a 7-0 win over Forks.
Each side fought through injuries and both the Riders’ and Spartans’ defenses were nearly impossible to gain ground upon.
Riders tight end and Offensive MVP Logan Harris scored the game’s lone touchdown, catching a pass to the flat and running it in from 2 yards out. Liam Shea disrupted the Spartans and put constant pressure on the Forks backfield to earn Defensive MVP.
Forks got the upper hand in the A-squad game, holding off a Port Angeles comeback for a 25-21 win.
Alik Ross had a 50-yard TD reception as the Riders did their best to stay even with the Spartans.
