AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Clallam County Amateur golf tournament this weekend

SEQUIM — The Clallam County Amateur Championship, a three-day, 54-hole competition, will be contested across three area courses Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The event is open to all amateur golfers.

The 54-hole medal play competition will include three amateur divisions and will start Friday with 10 a.m. tee times at Peninsula Golf Club in Port Angeles and Sunland Golf & Country Club in Sequim.

Sunland and Peninsula will have 9 a.m. tee times for round two (Friday/Saturday rounds will be split between the two courses).

Play will move over to The Cedars at Dungeness for the final round Sunday, with tee times set for 9 a.m.

Entry fees include the three rounds of golf, range balls, prizes, raffles, a KP contest and a final-round meal.

There will be chance at winning a $5,000 cash hole-in-one prize each day.

Future Riders

PORT ANGELES — In-person registration events for the Future Riders youth football and cheer programs are set for today and Thursday.

Players and cheerleaders in first through sixth grades can be registered at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

Players must be age 13 before July 31.

The cost is $150, with each additional child $125.

Registration also is open at www.pafutureriders.com/register.php.

An in-person late registration event will be held in August, and players also can sign up when gear is handed out before the season.

Practices will begin Aug. 16.
