OLYMPIA — Retention of Chinook salmon was suspended Tuesday in Marine Area 6 (Strait of Juan de Fuca from the Lyre River east to Point Wilson in Port Townsend) because 100 percent of the legal-sized Chinook encounter quota has been met.
The mark-selective coho fishery will continue as planned in Marine Area 6. The agreed-upon limit for Chinook encounters was 6,843 and that estimate was reached, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. WDFW staff made the decision to close to Chinook to preserve coho and pink opportunities in Marine Area 6, a WDFW press release stated.
The daily catch limit in Marine Area 6 is two. All Chinook, chum and wild coho must be released.
Dick Brown Memorial tournament slated
PORT ANGELES — The 23rd annual Dick Brown Memorial Baseball Tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Lincoln Park ballfields.
Teams playing in the 10-year-old division are the Port Angeles Blue, North Seattle Wolfpack, Anacortes 10U, Mudcats, 9U Outlaws and PA 10s. Playing in the 11-year-old division are the Edmonds Baseball Association, the Mudcats, Port Angeles and OS Bulldogs.
In the 12-year-old division are Port Angeles, the Federal Way Outlaws, Legends Baseball, the Mudcats, the Islanders and the Kitsap Ospreys.
Pool play will take place from 9 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Championship games will be played at 2:15 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday.
