AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Chimacum’s Williamson to play on Dallas Cowboys’ field

Sequim softball raffle; Cowboys falter late in opener

Cowboys falter late in opener 51-45 vs. Tenino

CHIMACUM — The Chimacum Cowboys’ small bench hurt them in a close season-opening loss to Tenino.

Tenino outscored Chimacum 19-10 in the fourth quarter in a 51-45 win.

“It was a close game the whole way through,” said Cowboys coach Mark Bennett. “The kids played hard and played well.”

The difference came down to Tenino execution in the fourth and the Cowboys not having much depth, Bennett said. Chimacum has just eight players on the varsity roster.

“We got a little tired. Our bench doesn’t have a lot of players,” Bennett said.

The Cowboys had four players who scored at least nine points. Cody Clark led the team with 11, while Joe Savill scored 10, including going 4 for 4 from the free-throw line. Tanner Carstensen and Clayton Smith each scored nine.

Chimacum played at South Whidbey Wednesday after press deadline. The Cowboys will next play at Crosspoint on Friday.

Williamson selected

CHIMACUM — Chimacum High School senior Jacob Williamson will play at the other home of the Cowboys, the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium, during the Blue-Grey All American Bowl football game Dec. 16.

Williamson received a letter last spring inviting him to a regional tryout in Portland for the game and played in a Super Regional in Las Vegas to qualify for the contest.

He will play for the West squad in a game against players from eastern states.

Williamson played offensive tackle and defensive end for Chimacum and was a first-team All-Olympic League 1A Division selection in his junior and senior seasons.

The game is held to help prep prospects from all over the country receive national exposure and increase their chances to secure college scholarships.
