AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Boys & Girls Club golf benefit set June 26; no large races this season at Lincoln Park BMX

SEQUIM — The 29th annual Boys & Girls Club Golf Tournament & Fundraiser, a four-person scramble, is set for a 1 p.m. shotgun start on Friday, June 26, at Sunland Golf & Country Club, 109 Hilltop Drive.

Presented by 7 Cedars Casino, the tourney raises funds for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula, with units in Sequim and Port Angeles.

Registration is $100 per player ($125 with player package). Or, players can register as twosomes (for $200) or foursomes ($400); fee includes greens fee, cart, practice range, tee favors and a complimentary lunch. The $25 golfer package includes two mulligans, two throws, a complimentary Putt for Wine and raffle entry.

Advanced registration and pre-payment is required; register at bgcopgolf.maxgiving.com.

With golf courses mandating more safety protocols to handle COVID-19 concerns, event organizers are asking tourney teams be made up of spouses/children/co-workers that team members come into contact on a regular basis.

Players are advised to practice ahead of time, as no warm up time is available on tournament day. All carts, scorecards and giveaways will be handled with gloves and/or sanitized.

Teams should show up no sooner than one hour prior to the start.

Tourney attendants and game organizers been asked to wear masks and to sanitize between teams to minimize germ transfer.

Player protocol is subject to change based on COVID-19 regulations.

No large races

PORT ANGELES — The Lincoln Park BMX Track will not be able to hold larger races until Clallam County has reached Phase 4 of the state’s plan for reopening, track operator Sean Coleman announced.

Upcoming State and Gold Cup qualifying events this summer have been canceled as a result.

Racing is still an option as limited practice sessions have been held at the track on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sundays since June 4.

All riders must hold USABMX membership. New members and renewals can be made at USABMX.com.
