AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Adult softball league registration underway in Port Angeles and Jefferson County

PORT ANGELES — A team captain meeting for the city of Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department’s adult softball leagues will be held at Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St., at 7 p.m. Monday.

The 2021 season will open with a Kick Off Tournament set for May 14-16, with regular season games beginning the week of May 18 and concluding July 22.

All games will be held at Shane Park. The fields at Shane Park are now open for unscheduled drop-in practices and players may have to place your own bases on the fields.

County softball

PORT TOWNSEND — Today is the registration deadline for Jefferson County Parks & Recreation’s coed softball league for ages 18 and older.

A coaches meeting will be held today at 6 p.m. at the Rec Center, 620 Tyler St. in Port Townsend.

The regular season will run from June 1 to mid-July with games at H.J. Carroll Park in Chimacum or Memorial Field in Port Townsend.

Turnovers trip PC

BELLEVUE — Peninsula College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams both fell on the road against Bellevue.

The Pirate men held a three-point halftime advantage but faded in the second half, with the Bulldogs forcing 25 Peninsula turnovers in a 75-71 Bellevue win.

Neal Garcia came off the bench to lead the Pirates in scoring with 13 points to go along with four steals and four rebounds.

Isaiah Sampson added 11 points and nine rebounds, KeAndre Hunter-Holiday posted 11 points, Ty Artis had 10 points and team highs in rebounds (10) and assists (8) for the Pirates (4-4) in the loss.

The Peninsula women turned the ball over 20 times to Bellevue’s 10 in a 67-51 defeat.

Sequim’s Hope Glasser hit 7 of 12 shots to lead the Pirates in scoring with 14 and rebounds with nine.

Ariyanna Camacho-Villafuerte added 13 points and four boards for Peninsula (2-3).

The Pirates will host a doubleheader with Whatcom on Saturday with the women playing at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m.
