Area volleyball players honored by coaches
SEQUIM — Sequim’s Tayler Breckinridge was named as an honorable mention to the Class 2A All-State Volleyball Team by the Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association.
Breckinridge, an outside hitter, led the Wolves in kills and was a big part in Sequim going 10-4 in league play and finishing tied for second place in the Olympic League 2A Division.
Also making All-State teams were players from Neah Bay and Clallam Bay at the 1B level.
Making the 1B All-State second team were outside hitter Miriam Wonderly of Clallam Bay and Libero Grace Buzzell of Neah Bay.
Neah Bay’s outside hitter Ocean Aguirre was a 1B honorable mention, as was the Red Devils’ Faye Martinez as a middle blocker.
Twisters’ competes
AUBURN — Coach Kelle Riley took 15 athletes from Twisters Gymnastics to compete at the NAWGJWA Holiday Critique Meet hosted by Auburn Gymnastics last weekend.
Gymnasts receive a critique of their performance by USA Gymnastics judges as this meet was designed to provide the gymnasts with constructive feedback of their routines.
For the Level 3 team, Emma Anderson placed first overall in her age division with a personal best all-around score of 37.35. Arianna Beringer also placed first in her age division with a personal best of 37.15. Josie Anderson and Sophia Barrayo each placed second in their age divisions and scored personal bests in the all-around, as well as in the vault, beam and floor events.
For the Level 4 team, Quinn Lennox and Lilly Nagy placed first and second respectively in the Senior B division all-around, with scores of 36.525 and 36.1.
Both girls posted career high scores of 9.425 in the floor exercise, each setting new club records in this event.
Arden Moore placed third in the Senior A Division and posted a personal best of 36.075 in the all-around, as well as a 9.425 on bars and a 9.425 on beam.
Ava Hubbard and Sarah Hinds made their level 4 debuts, finishing fifth and 11th respectively in the Senior B Division.
For the Level 7 team, Alex Schmadeke of Sequim placed first in the Senior B Division with a score of 36.525 in the all-around. Luca Campbell placed second in the Senior A Division, while Lia Poore, Tessa Richardson, Aliyah Yearian and Rell Lennox had strong performances in their Level 7 debuts.
