AREA SPORTS: Bake sale benefit helps send Port Angeles baseball state champs to regional tournament

Regionals bake sale supports PA state champs

PORT ANGELES — A bake sale/lemonade stand to raise funds for the state champion (13U) Olympic Junior Babe Ruth squad’s trip to the regional tournament is planned Thursday.

The sale will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the corner of Third and Chamber streets, 1032 E. Third St.

Olympic dropped Lynden 10-0 and 8-4 to win the state championship Thursday night at Volunteer Field.

The squad will open Pacific Northwest Babe Ruth Regional play July 20 in Meridian, Idaho.

Youth softball tourney

PORT ANGELES — Youth coed slowpitch softball tournaments for ages 9-12 and 12-15 will be held at Shane Park on Aug. 10.

The tournaments have a $175 team fee with a $50 nonrefundable deposit.

Registration closes July 26.

Tee off for Twisters

SEQUIM — A Tee Off for Twisters benefit golf tournament at The Cedars at Dungeness on Aug. 9 will raise funds for the competitive program at Twisters Gymnastics in Port Hadlock.

The four-person scramble format event has a 10 a.m. shotgun start, with a 4:30 p.m. cocktail hour and dinner at 5 p.m.

Entry fees are $600 for a four-person team and include cart use, driving range balls, two drink tickets per golfer, snack bags and the dinner.

Long drive and closest-to-the-pin contests for men and women are planned.

Players can buy mulligans, grenades and a 2-foot string-it-out putt.

Club softball tryouts

PORT ANGELES — Tryouts for the MGI Fastpitch club softball program will be held Thursday and July 20 in Port Angeles.

The sessions will be held at Lincoln Park at 6 p.m. Thursday and at 10 a.m. July 20.

The program is open to girls ages 10-18 in the Port Angeles School District.

Youth camp Monday

CHIMACUM — East Jefferson Rivals Youth Football will hold a skills camp at the Chimacum High School practice field, 91 West Valley Road, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

All experience levels are welcome.

Players should wear athletic clothing and cleats and bring a water bottle.

Registration is $50 and will be collected Monday at camp.
