AMERICAN LEGIONS: Wilder Sr., Jr. both extend winning streaks

KELSO — The Wilder Senior Baseball Club will go into today’s action at the Babe Ruth state U18 tournament undefeated after scoring 11 runs in the second and third innings in clobbering the Bulldogs 12-5.

Wilder Jr. also won Friday, beating the FCA Lumberjacks 4-2 in Centralia.

In the seniors’ game, the Bulldogs actually got up 2-0 early, but Wilder scored six runs in the second and five more in the third to jump out to a huge lead. The biggest blow came on a three-run home run by Ezra Townsend, his second of the American Legion season.

Alex Angevine also had a two-run single, while Braydan White and Kody Williams each had RBI doubles. Luke Flodstrom also had a double and an RBI, while Landen Olson had two RBIs and a run scored. Wilder also stole seven bases with Zeke Schmadeke stealing two bases and scoring two runs.

Colton Romero started and pitched four innings, allowing five hits and striking out three. He gave up four runs, but none of them were earned. Olson pitched three innings, giving up one hit and one earned run while striking out four.

It was the eighth win in a row for the seniors (27-6-1). Times for Wilder Sr.’s games today were not available Friday afternoon.

Wilder Jr. game

CENTRALIA — Wilder Junior managed just five hits against the FCA Lumberjacks, but that was enough as the juniors got solid pitching in a 4-2 victory Friday, the team’s 19th straight game without a loss.

Owen Leitz started and went five innings, allowing four hits and an earned run. Ethan Swenson and Bryce Deleon each pitched scoreless innings.

At the plate, Hunter Tennell was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, while Deleon was 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Ian Smithson scored two runs and stole two bases.

Wilder Jr. (23-4-1) played the Expos 17U Friday afternoon after deadline. Wilder Jr. plays Premier 18U in Centralia at 11:15 a.m. today.
