PORT ANGELES — It was a rough Sunday for the Wilder Senior and Wilder Junior baseball clubs as both teams were swept in doubleheaders at Civic Field and Volunteer Field, though the teams were in all the games until late.
Wilder Senior lost two to Whatcom Post No. 7 AAA 2-1 and 8-3. Wilder Junior lost a pair to the North City Pilots 7-5 in extra innings and 5-1.

Wilder Senior got an outstanding pitching performance from Colton Romero, who allowed just one hit in 5⅔ innings while striking out 10. But Wilder struggled to score, coming up with just six hits and managing just one run.
“It’s a tough start to our season,” said Wilder Senior coach Zac Moore. “We just have to play better. And play better as a group.”
Moore said Wilder Senior got solid pitching on the day but just couldn’t get the big hits to blow the games open.
“Our pitching all year has kept us in games. Colton threw a great game. We just have to hit the ball better,” Moore said.
Alex Angevine drove in the lone run on an RBI single in the third as Romero kept Wilder in the game with his gem into the sixth. Jordan Shumway and Tate Alton also hit doubles. Kody Williams pitched the final 1⅓ innings and took the loss, giving up two hits and striking out one.
The nightcap with Whatcom was also close until the late innings. Whatcom and Wilder Senior were locked in a 2-2 tie into the sixth inning as Ethan Staples was outstanding over the first five innings. He ended up going 5⅔, allowing eight hits and five earned runs while striking out two. Landen Olson pitched 1⅓, allowing three hits and an earned run.
Whatcom broke through with four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to take a big lead.
Wilder Senior did have a chance to get right back in the game in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases twice, but scoring just one run despite the bases being full. Shumway drove in one run with a sacrifice fly, but after a Braydan White walk, Whatcom was able to get a popup for the final out, getting out of the jam.
Angevine finished 2-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI, a sac fly and a stolen base. Rylan Politika hit a leadoff double in the sixth and Devyn Dearinger also hit a double and scored a run. Kaleb Mullen had a hit and an RBI.
Wilder Senior (2-8) played Monday night against the Kitsap County Revels 18U club. The result was after press deadline. PORT ANGELES — Wilder Junior lost two tough games, falling 7-5 in eight innings to the North City Pilots and 5-1 in the nightcap after allowing three runs over the final three innings.
In the early game, Wilder Junior and the Pilots were locked up 3-3 after seven innings. North City broke out for four runs in the eighth to take a 7-3 lead.
Wilder Junior had a chance to get back in the game, quickly loading the bases in the bottom of the eighth. Two runs scored on an error after a grounder by Brandt Perry, but that was all Wilder Junior could push across.
Carston Seibel was 1-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and two stolen bases, Hunter Stratford was 1-for-3 with a run scored and Logan Doyle had a double.
Braedyn Boulden pitched seven innings, giving up four hits and one earned run.
In the nightcap, the Pilots fired a one-hitter at Wilder Junior. Despite the lone hit, the junior squad was right in the game until the sixth inning. Perry went 5⅔ innings, allowing 13 hits but just four runs as he stranded a ton of runners. He struck out three. Seibel pitched the final 1⅓ innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.
Ian Smithson had Wilder Junior’s hit and he also scored the lone run of the game for the Olympic Peninsula club.
The sweep completed a 4-4 weekend for Wilder Junior (7-6). Wilder Junior next plays at a AA tournament in Selah, first facing Anacortes on Thursday.
Wilder A plays its first game at home at Volunteer Park at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday against the Kingston Kings.
