AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder teams both lose one-run heartbreakers at state

KENNEWICK — Both Wilder teams had heartbreaking one-run losses in the second round of their American Legion state tournaments Tuesday.

Wilder Sr. for the second straight game got fantastic pitching, but struggled to generate runs against Bellingham Post No. 7, losing 1-0. Wilder A had an even tougher loss, taking a 9-1 lead into the sixth inning, but losing 10-9 after allowing five runs in the bottom of the ninth to Rogers.

Both teams end their run at state tournaments after going 0-2.

In the Wilder Sr. game at the AAA tournament in Kennewick, Wyatt Hall started, going four innings and allowing four hits and two walks. He gave up one run that was unearned. John Vaara pitched the final two innings, giving up no hits and no walks.

But Wilder could only manage four hits against Bellingham’s Tobin Aker and Tyler Hoggith. Jacob Felton had a double and a walk, while Ty Bradow, Trey Baysinger and Seth Woods all had singles.

Wilder A

In the Wilder A game held in Spokane, the Olympic Peninsula team got decent pitching, but was hurt by six errors. Josiah Gooding started, going 6â…” innings and allowing no earned runs. He gave up six unearned runs, however. He allowed seven hits and struck out nine while walking two.

It was a wild game on the basepaths as Wilder and Rogers combined for 19 stolen bases. Gooding was 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Rylan Politika and Tate Alton each had a hit, a run scored, a walk and two RBIs.

Alton added two stolen bases. Luke Flodstrom had a hit, a walk, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Ethan Staples was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.
