AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Sr. wins two out of three against Lakeside teams

PORT ANGELES — After a Saturday morning loss, the Wilder Senior Baseball Club bounced back with a pair of wins Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Wilder Senior (15-17) began the weekend by losing 11-7 to Lakeside Legion but came back in the nightcap to win 8-1 behind an outstanding pitching performance from Kaleb Mullen and Luke Flodstrom and a huge game at the plate from Braydan White.

On Sunday, Wilder Senior crushed Lakeside Gray 13-1 as Landen Olson pitched a two-hitter and the seniors pounded out 10 hits in just four innings.

Olson went the full five innings, striking out five and walking three.

Ezra Townsend hit a triple, stole two bases, scored two runs and drove in three. Alex Angevine was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and White continued his hot weekend, going 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI. For the weekend, White is hitting 7-for-10.

Mullen had a double, a sac fly and two RBIs. Luke Flodstrom had a hit and two RBIs, while Jordan Shumway had a hit and three runs scored. Josiah Gooding had a hit, a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases.

Saturday’s games

Mullen went six innings, allowing three hits, three walks and one earned run while striking out three. Flodstrom pitched a hitless seventh inning.

White, meanwhile, was 3-for-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in two runs and scored two. Angevine was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Gooding hit a double and drove in a run while Lincoln Bear was 2-for-3. Jordan Shumway had a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

It was Lakeside Legion’s first loss of the year in American Legion Area 1 AAA play as Lakeside has strong teams most years.

In the early game, Wilder Senior battled back from a 8-1 deficit to make the game tight at 8-5 as the two teams tallied 29 hits. Lakeside was able to score three runs seventh to open up a big lead again, though Wilder again battled back with two more in the bottom of the inning.

Mullen had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Townsend was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a sacrifice fly.

White was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Bryant Laboy had a hit and an RBI.

Wilder Senior played a late game Sunday after press deadline against Lakeside Gray.
