AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Sr. wins Mount Vernon semifinal

MOUNT VERNON — Wilder Sr. rode its pitching to make it to the finals of the Nate Steffens Memorial Tournament in Mount Vernon, going 3-0-1 in the tournament through Sunday afternoon.

Wilder Sr. won the semifinals 3-1 over Cascade Crush behind the pitching of Wyatt Hall and John Vaara. The Olympic Peninsula team also tied the Natural 22s Saturday 5-5.

In Sunday morning’s win, starter Hall held Cascade scoreless over the first six innings. He ended up going 6⅓ innings, giving up six hits and walking two while striking out two. Vaara came in to get the final two outs, giving up no hits and no walks with a strikeout.

Wilder Sr. only had three total hits in the game. Hall helped his own cause with a hit and a run scored, while Trey Baysinger had a hit and two RBIs. Adam Watkins had a hit and an RBI, while Landon Seibel had a walk and scored two runs. That was all the offense Wilder Sr. needed.

In the earlier game, Wilder Sr. got caught by The Natural 22s, which scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to deny Wilder an unbeaten record going into the championship game.

Seibel pitched well enough for the win. He went 6⅔ innings, giving up five hits and only one earned run. He walked two and struck out three.

Nine different Wilder Sr. players had hits. Jacob Felton went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and a walk. Baysinger was 2-for-4, While Ty Bradow was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, a stolen base and a walk.
