AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Sr. will host six teams as Firecracker Classic returns

Games to be played at Civic Field in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — Eighteen games with seven teams from around Washington and Oregon will be participating in the Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker Classic baseball tournament to be held at Port Angeles Civic Field Thursday to Sunday.

This is the first Firecracker Classic since 2019. The tournament had to be canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Participating in the tournament are the host team, Wilder Senior, Lakeside Babe Ruth of Bellevue, WBS Colts Red of Portland, Ore., WBS Colts Black, River Dogs of Mount Vernon, Cascade Crush of Bellingham and Everett Rival.

There will be three days of a round-robin tournament with teams split up in black and red divisions, playing four games each. Placement games are on Sunday with the championship game set for 5 p.m.

Wilder Sr. will play all of its games in the evening with a doubleheader on Friday. They will play at 8 p.m. Thursday against the River Dogs, 5 p.m. Friday against Lakeside Babe Ruth, 8 p.m. Friday against Everett Rival and WBS Colts Red at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Forecast for the tournament is for mostly sunny skies with cooler temperatures in the mid- to upper-70s.

Friday

River Dogs vs. WBS Colts Red, 9 a.m.

Cascade Crush vs. Everett Rival, 11:30 a.m.

WBS Colts Black vs. Lakeside Babe Ruth, 2 p.m.

Lakeside Babe Ruth vs. Wilder, 5 p.m.

Wilder vs. Everett Rival, 8 p.m.

Saturday

WBS Colts Black vs. Cascade Crush, 9 a.m.

Everett Rival vs. WBS Colts Black, 11:30 a.m.

River Dogs vs. Everett Rival, 2 p.m.

Lakeside Babe Ruth vs. River Dogs, 5 p.m.

WBS Colts Red vs. Wilder, 8 p.m.

Sunday

Championship Round

No. 5 seed vs. No. 6 seed, 8 a.m.

Red No. 1 vs. Black No. 2, 11 a.m.

Black No. 1 vs. Red No. 2, 2 p.m.

Championship, 5 p.m.

In addition to Wilder Sr.’s games, Wilder Jr. is scheduled to play six games at Volunteer Field this weekend. Wilder Jr. will play Anacortes at 10 a.m. Friday and River Dogs at 1 p.m. Friday. They will play the River Dogs at noon Saturday and Kitsap at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, and the River Dogs at 10 a.m. Sunday and Kitsap at 1 p.m. Sunday.
