AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Sr., Wilder Jr. get solid pitching over weekend

SELAH — The Wilder Senior and Junior Baseball clubs got spectacular pitching in three victories Saturday afternoon.

Wilder Sr.won its first game of the year Saturday, getting a two-hitter from Rylan Politika and Brayden White in a 3-1 victory over Hanford in the Selah Tournament, while Wilder Jr. got a one-hitter, including six no-hit innings from from Bryce Deleon, in a 4-0 win over Lynden in Lynden. Wilder Jr. followed up with a two-hitter from Rylan Dunn and Owen Leitz in the second victory, 7-4, also over Lynden.

In the Wilder Sr. victory, Politika went six innings and gave up one hit and one earned run while striking out three. White pitched the final finning, giving up one hit and striking out one.

Alex Angevine had a triple in the first inning and scored. He also had an RBI. Tate Alton and Landen Olson had a hit and a run scored, while White had a hit and Josiah Gooding and Kaleb Mullen had RBIs.

In Wilder Sr.’s night game, they lost 4-1 to Yakima Valley Pepsi Pak.

White was 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Gooding was 2-for-3 with a double. On the mound, Ethan Staples went the entire way, going six innings, allowing eight hits and three earned runs while striking out three.

In Wilder Jr’s first game Saturday, Deleon went six inning and struck out seven while allowing no hits. Leitz allowed one hit in one inning while striking out one.

Wilder Jr. stole 11 bases in the opening game. Ian Smithson had a hit and four stolen bases, Hunter Stratford was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases and Kody Williams had a hit and three stolen bases. Dunn had a hit and run scored.

In the late game, Wilder Jr., now 5-2 on the year, beat Lynden 7-4, scoring three runs in the eighth inning and allowing just two hits all game.

The duo of Dunn and Leitz was solid on the mound, combining to strike out nine while allowing just one earned run.

Wilder Jr. stole another 13 bases for 24 steals in two games Saturday.

Williams was 3-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and two stolen bases, while Carson Waddell was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Brandt Perry had a double and an RBI.

Smithson had a hit, a run scored, an RBI and three stolen bases while Deleon had a hit, two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Wilder Senior (1-5) plays two more games Sunday against Hanford and Yakima Valley Pepsi Pak, while Wilder Junior plays two games Sunday at the BurlSox in Burlington.

Friday’s Games

Wilder Junior lost a pair of games Friday to the Mount Vernon Riverdogs 7-0 and 7-4, though Carston Seibel had a huge day for the Olympic Peninsula club.

In the 7-0 loss, Wilder Jr. managed just two hits. One of those was a double by Seibel. The other was a sinlge by Carson Waddell. Brandt Perry started, going five innings and allowing five earned runs on eight hits and four strikeouts.

In the 7-4 loss, Seibel was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Easton Fisher was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a walk and Kody Williams was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Rylan Dunn also went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored, while Ian Smithson had a hit and an RBI.

Williams pitched six innings, allowing eight hits and three earned runs while striking out six.
