AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Sr.’s Logan Olson fires no-hitter at state tournament

SPOKANE — Logan Olson continued his amazing season of baseball, firing a no-hitter in the American Legion AAA state tournament this weekend as Wilder Senior split its first two games.

Olson went five innings in an 11-0 win over the Spokane Cannons on Saturday. His only blemish was one walk. Two other baserunners got on base on errors. Olson also struck out seven in the five-inning complete-game victory.

It was the second no hitter of the year that Olson has been involved in. He threw four innings in a combined no-hitter with teammate Logan Urvina for the Forks Spartans this spring.

The Spokane Cannons were the Area 3 champion and came in to Saturday’s game with a 9-3 record. Wilder Senior came in to the game with a 6-10 record and finished third in the Area 1 Division, but four of those losses came against a 16-0 Lakeside Recovery squad.

Olson wasn’t the only Wilder player who had a big game.

Landon Seibel was 3-for-3 with two triples, a double and four RBIs. Elijah Flodstrom was 2-for-4 with a triple, double and three RBIs.

Hunter Robinson was 2-for-2 with a double, while Beckett Jarnagin hit a double. Olson helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

In Wilder Senior’s second game Sunday, the team’s bats came alive against Lakeside Recovery, but they lost 17-11. “We hit well enough to win it,” said coach Zac Moore. “We had too many walks. We had eight walks and five errors.”

“Connor Bear had a monster game,” Moore said. Bear went 3-for-4 with three doubles. All three doubles were off the outfield wall and were near-home runs.

Olson went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and Jarnagin was 2-for-5 with a double. Wyatt Hall was 1-for-3 and scored three runs.

Wilder Senior is not having any trouble scoring lately as the team has produced 63 runs in its past six games.

Wilder Senior faced Bellingham Post No. 7 on Monday after press deadline in the third round. Wilder has split four games against Post No. 7 this year. “We know exactly who they are,” Moore said.

The Clallam County-based boys also battled 100-degree temperatures Monday in Spokane with temps expected to reach up to 104 today.

“It’s hot, but we’re all playing in the same heat,” Moore said.
