AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Sr. gets great pitching from Romero but falls in seventh inning

Wilder A improves to 4-0

PORT ANGELES — The Wilder Senior Baseball Club’s Colton Romero pitched a great game, but the Wilder Sr. bats couldn’t do much damage against Lakeside Elite as the Issaquah-based club won 4-1 late Sunday.

Two Lakeside squads swept Wilder Sr. this weekend, though the Olympic Peninsula team stuck with Lakeside in every game. In all four games, the Lakeside teams got a big inning late to pull away. Lakeside Recovery and Elite draw their players from 3A and 4A schools in Bellevue and Issaquah and are usually tough teams.

On Sunday, Wilder Sr. went into the seventh inning tied 1-1, but Lakeside Elite came up with three runs in the top of the seventh.

Romero went 6â…” innings, giving up just two hits and one earned run. He struck out six. Josiah Gooding pitched the final third of an inning, giving up two hits and two earned runs.

At the plate, Wilder Sr. had four hits. Alex Angevine, and Kaleb Mullen had hits, while Brayden Hagerty had a hit and an RBI. Elijah Flodstrom had a hit and a stolen base, while Conner Bear scored Wilder’s run. He was hit by a pitch and stole a base.

Wilder Sr. (6-6) looks to bounce back from the tough weekend, next playing at Whatcom Post No. 7 in Bellingham on Wednesday.
