AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Sr. finishes tournament with a 10-1 win

Olympic Peninsula team goes 3-2 in Yakima

YAKIMA — Wilder Sr. won three out of five games played in scorching heat at the Garrettson Tournament in Yakima this weekend, concluding the tournament with a 10-1 win over the River Dogs on Sunday.

The Olympic Peninsula boys bounced back Sunday from a tough and sloppy 5-3 loss to Chaffey on Saturday.

In Sunday’s game, Jacob Felton and Landon Seibel each hit home runs. Felton and Seibel each had two RBIs with Seibel adding another single.

Michael Grubb went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base. Tanner Price went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and an RBI and Wyatt Hall went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two walks and a stolen base.

Trey Baysinger added a double and two RBIs.

Hall pitched the entire game, going six innings and allowing five hits, one earned run and six strikeouts.

In Saturday’s loss, Wilder Sr. got some great pitching from Logan Olson and Seth Woods but struggled in the field.

“We played sloppy baseball and still had a chance to come back in the end,” said coach Zac Moore. “Seth Woods pitched well to keep us in the game.”

Woods went the final three innings, allowing just one hit and one walk and no earned runs. Olson also pitched well in the starting role, going three innings and giving up only four hits and two earned runs. He walked three and struck out three.

Olson and Woods were hurt by five Wilder Sr. errors.

Felton was his usual steady self at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk. Adam Watkins had a hit and an RBI, while Grubb had a hit.

Wilder Sr. returns home to less extreme temps today to prepare for the four-day Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker Tournament at Civic Field beginning Thursday.
