AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Seniors pitchers shine in 3-0 victory

PORT ANGELES — The Wilder Senior Baseball Club got back on the winning track, getting outstanding pitching from a trio of hurlers who fired a 13-strikeout, four-hit shutout to beat the Kitsap County Rebels 3-0 on Monday at Civic Field.

Rylan Politika started the game, getting the victory by going 5â…” innings and striking out six while allowing just two hits. Braydan White pitched 2â…“ innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five. Alex Angevine pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save. He allowed one hit and struck out two.

Wilder Senior didn’t score until the fifth inning, but finally broke through with some clutch hits in the fifth. They picked up one run on a Luke Flodstrom single. After a wild pitch, Nate Basden went in to pinch run, moving to third base on a passed ball. Angevine then hit an RBI single to third base to score Basden.

In the sixth inning, Jordan Shumway was hit by a pitch and Ezra Townsend hit a single. Shumway came in to score on a fielder’s choice groundout by Josiah Gooding. Gooding ended up stealing third and with two outs, and Ethan Staples hit an RBI single to drive in Gooding for an insurance run, making it 3-0.

From there, Politika, White and Angevine shut the door.

White finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a double. Gooding had a run, RBI and two stolen bases.

Wilder Senior (3-8) next plays in a tournament in Mount Vernon, beginning with a game at Crush Baseball Orange at 2:30 p.m. Friday and a game versus Mount Vernon at 8:50 a.m. on Saturday.

Wilder A plays its first game at 6 p.m. today against the Kingston Kings at 6 p.m.

Wilder Junior plays at a tournament in Selah at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against Anacortes and again on Friday against FG Plakata 18U at 2:30 p.m. and the Yakima Valley Peppers at 5 p.m.
