AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Senior outpitches Wilder Junior in 6-2 victory

BREMERTON — The Wilder Senior and Wilder Junior baseball clubs for the most part pitched well this weekend at the Olympic College Invitational, but both teams struggled for runs against some powerful pitching.

Wilder Senior concluded the weekend’s play late Sunday with a 6-2 victory over Wilder Junior as Sequim’s Ethan Staples and Zeke Schmadeke combined on a four-hitter.

Wilder Junior’s Ethan Swenson and Carson Waddell pitched well, too, allowing just five hits and two earned runs.

Alex Angevine had a double, three stolen bases and two runs scored for Wilder Senior. Ezra Townsend had a double and an RBI, while Braydan White had a triple and two runs scored. Lincoln Bear and Rylan Politika also had hits.

Staples went three innings, allowing three hits and one earned run. He struck out three. Schmadeke went four innings, allowed one hit and struck out four.

For Wilder Junior, Zach DeBray was 2-for-3, Ian Smithson had a hit and Easton Fisher had a hit and an RBI.

Swenson went five innings on the mound, allowing two hits and two earned runs. He struck out seven. Waddell pitched an inning, allowing two hits and striking out one.

In a Saturday game, the West Sound Baseball Club beat Wilder Senior 11-1 as the seniors managed just two hits, one by Jordan Shumway and the other by Braydan White.

Wilder Senior lost a tight 3-1 game to TBC Premier on Friday as TBC scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Kody Williams pitched well enough to win, going six innings. He allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out two. Again, the seniors managed just a pair of hits, this time by Shumway and Colton Romero.

Wilder Junior lost 5-1 to West Sound on Saturday. Carston Seibel, Fisher, Waddell and DeBray all had hits. Bryce DeLeon pitched the entire game, allowing 12 hits and four earned runs. He struck out two.

Wilder Junior also lost 6-1 to TBC on Friday. Ian Smithson had a hit, a stolen base and a run scored, while Hunter Tennell had a hit and an RBI. Owen Leitz and DeBray also had hits.

Seibel pitched the entire game, allowing nine hits and four earned runs. He struck out four.

Wilder Senior next plays four games Saturday and Sunday against league opponent Whatcom Post 7 AAA, scheduled for Civic Field. Games are set to begin at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday and noon and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Wilder Junior has a new AA league opponent, the Wollochet Baseball Club, with games at noon and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Volunteer Field.
