AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Senior caps off tournament with shutout

SPOKANE — The Wilder Senior Baseball Club capped off a successful Spokane/Coeur d’Alene wooden bat tournament this weekend with a one-hit shutout by Alex Angevine in a 9-0 victory over the Spokane Expos on Saturday.

Wilder Senior went 3-1-1 over the tournament and improved its season record to 21-6-1.

Both Angevine and Josiah Gooding had dominant performances over the past four games. In addition to his pitching masterpiece, Angevine went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, two runs scored, three RBIs and a stolen base. Gooding was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Colton Romero was 2-3 with a run scored and two RBIs, while Jordan Shumway, who had a nice tournament was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

Over the last four games at the tournament, Angevine went 10-for-15 with a three-run home run, two triples, three doubles, 10 runs scored and 10 RBIs. Gooding was 10-for-14 with a grand slam home run, two doubles, six runs scored and 10 RBIs.

Wilder Senior will next play a doubleheader Wednesday in Bellevue against Lakeside Elite Gray.

Friday’s Games

Playing in Medical Lake on Friday, Wilder Senior beat the Spokane Cannons 14-8 and tied the AHP Renegades 5-5 on Friday in Medical Lake.

In the win over the Cannons, Angevine went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a triple. He scored three runs, drove in two and stole a base. Gooding went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. He also stole a base.

Shumway had a great game, going 3-for-3 with a stolen base and four runs scored. Bryant Laboy was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs, while Braydan White hit a double, drove in two runs and scored a fun.

On the mound, Zeke Schmadeke went four innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out four. Landen Olson pitched two innings, allowing two hits and three earned runs while also striking out four.

In the AHP tie, Angevine hit a three-run home run as part of a five-run fourth inning. Gooding was 2-for-2 with a double and Shumway was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Laboy had a hit, a run scored and two RBIs, while Lincoln Bear hit a double.

Brayden Martin pitched five innings and allowed five hits, one earned run and struck out four.

In Thursday’s 16-7 win over Whatcom, Gooding hit a grand slam home run and finished the game with seven RBIs.
