PORT ANGELES — Bouncing back from a tough walk-off loss in the Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker championship game, Wilder Senior hung on Monday to beat the WBS Colts Black team 2-1 in a tight pitchers’ duel.
The two teams combined for just seven hits. Wilder Senior, which used up its pitchers in the tournament held this weekend, used six pitchers, who combined to allow one earned run.
With the win, Wilder Senior improved its season record to an outstanding 18-5.
Wilder Senior got all the runs it would need in the first inning as Ethan Staples and Bryant Laboy each had RBI singles.
The seniors held that 2-0 lead into the seventh inning when the Colts Black team got two singles and a hit batsman to score a run. With runners at first and second and two out, pitcher Luke Flodstrom induced a grounder to shortstop Landen Olson, who got the trail runner out at second to end the game.
Rylan Politika hit a double but was stranded on base.
Coming off an 8-1 week, Wilder Senior travels to Medical Lake to play in a tournament there beginning Thursday against the NWStars 18U at 9 a.m. and Whatcom Post No. 7 AAA at 11:30 a.m.

Late Sunday game
Wilder Senior had a great Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker tournament, but came up just short of winning the tournament championship, falling to CBC 18U 4-3 in a walkoff in the eighth inning.
Wilder Senior led much of the game, but CBC came from behind with two runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 3-3, sending it to extra innings.
With a ghost runner placed at second base, Wilder Senior had a golden opportunity to blow the game open in the eighth after Colton Romero singled to put runners at first and third with no outs. Jordan Shumway hit into a double play and Josiah Gooding was held at third base. CBC was then able to get a fly ball out.
In the bottom of the eighth, relief pitcher Braydan White got two outs, but CBC came through with a single to score the runner from second to win.
Wilder Senior went 7-1 in the tournament. CBC is a solid team out of Ferndale with a 15-5-1 record. The seniors beat CBC earlier in the tournament 4-2, the only game CBC lost in Port Angeles.
Angevine had an RBI double and finished the game 2-for-4. White had a double, RBI and a sac fly, while Colton Romero was 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Gooding was 2-for-4 with a double and Laboy had an RBI single.
On the mound, Brayden Martin, usually a closer, went a solid 6⅔ innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. He struck out four. White pitched an inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Wilder Junior
SEQUIM — Wilder Junior capped off a championship at the Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker Junior Tournament with a 10-0 win Sunday night over Lakeside Recovery.
Carston Seibel pitched a five-inning no-hitter in the victory, the 11th in a row for Wilder Junior. He struck out six.
Wilder Junior scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back. Owen Leitz had a triple, two runs scored, two RBIs, a stolen base and a walk.
Jensen Wolfe hit a double and scored two runs, while Zach DeBray capped off a big tournament with a hit, a run scored and two stolen bases. Easton Fisher had a sac fly, a run scored and two RBIs.
Wilder Junior improved its record to 16-4. The juniors next play a doubleheader against the Kingston Kings 15U team at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Civic Field. They host the Centralia Baseball Club for a doubleheader Sunday at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
