PORT ANGELES — Wilder Senior is 2-1 so far in the team’s league-opening tournament of games held at Civic Field this weekend.
Wilder (2-1 in the American Legion AAA Region standings) lost its opener 9-6 to Lakeside BR (Issaquah) on Saturday afternoon, but bounced back to beat NW Sting on Saturday night and to beat Lakeside BR 9-7 on Sunday morning. Results of a Sunday afternoon rematch with NW Sting were after press deadline.
In Wilder’s only loss so far, the Olympic Peninsula-based team rallied from a 9-2 hole and had its chances to blow the game open, but left the bases loaded in the fourth and fifth innings.
Ezra Townsend had an RBI single, Connor Bear had a single, stolen base and scored a run, and Beckett Jarnagin had two singles and drove in a run. Landon Seibel beat out a nubber in front of the plate with the bases loaded to drive in a run.
Colton Romero had a good game. He had two walks, including one with the bases loaded to drive in a run, a steal and a run scored. Hunter Robinson hit a double.
Peyton Cagey also had a good game. He got plunked with a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in a run and he pitched the final three innings, keeping Lakeside scoreless in the sixth and the seventh as Wilder rallied to make the game close at the end.
