GIG HARBOR — The Wilder Junior’s winning streak is over, but the team’s unbeaten streak continues at an impressive 17 games.
The juniors won three straight games this weekend to stretch their win streak to 16 games. They came oh-so-close to making it 17 games late Sunday, but the NW Blaze baseball club scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to force a 10-10 tie.
Earlier Sunday, Wilder Junior beat the NW Blaze 21-4. The juniors also had a pair of wins Saturday over the Wollochet Baseball Club by the scores of 10-0 and 16-1.
After this weekend, Wilder Junior will move on to the state AA American Legion tournament beginning July 26 in Spokane with an outstanding record of 22-4-1.
The 10-10 tie with NW Blaze was a see-saw affair with NW Blaze holding the lead much of the game. Wilder Junior rallied with five runs in the top of the seventh to take a 10-6 lead into the bottom of the inning, but NW Blaze rallied in the bottom of the inning. With the winning run on second base and two out, Hunter Tennell got a fly ball out to center to end the game and keep the unbeaten streak alive.
Owen Leitz went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI. Bryce Deleon hit a double, scored a run and drove in two.
In Sunday’s early win, Wilder Junior had just 10 hits, but took advantage of 11 NW Blaze walks and four errors. Owen Leitz went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Hunter Tennell was 2-for-3 with two run scored and three stolen bases. Easton Fisher was 1-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs.
Carston Seibel had a hit, two runs scored, two RBIs, two stolen bases and three walks. Bryce Deleon had a hit with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Ethan Swenson pitched four innings, giving up six hits and three earned runs while striking out three.
Oliver Hopkins of Quilcene plays for NW Blaze and had a hit, a run scored and an RBI for the Kitsap County club.
On Friday, Wilder Junior won the opening game over Wollochet behind a complete-game one-hitter by Seibel. He struck out nine.
At the plate, Ian Smithson had a big day overall. He was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI.
Deleon was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Swenson was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Fisher had a double, two runs scored and three stolen bases.
In the second game, Wilder Junior pounded out 15 hits, while Leitz went the entire game on the mound, allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out two.
Smithson again had a good game, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, three stolen bases and an RBI.
Tennell went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Duran Ward was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Deleon was 2-for-5 with a run scored and three RBIs, while DeBray was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Wilder A sweeps
SILVERDALE —The Wilder A team swept a pair of games from the Silverdale 16U All-Stars, winning both contests in shutouts.
Wilder A began by beating Silverdale 10-0 on Friday, then followed up with a 9-0 win early Saturday.
With the sweep, Wilder A is the Northern Washington champions and will be moving on to the Babe Ruth 16U regional championship, which will begin July 24 in Meridian, Idaho.
In Saturday’s win, Lalo Dominguez went the distance on the mound, giving up just two hits and no walks. He struck out nine.
At the plate, Dominguez also had two RBIs. Eden Peterson had a hit and two runs scored, while Parker Pavlak had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored.
Noah Johnstad, Noah Green and Logan Botero all had a hit and an RBI.
In Friday’s win, Wyatt Bruch pitched the complete-game shutout, allowing two hits and three walks. Wilder A had just five hits but were able to score 10 runs on 13 walks and 12 stolen bases.
Easton Schlichting had a double, two stolen bases, a run scored and an RBI. Easton Prchal had a hit, a run scored and two RBIs.
Eden Peterson had a hit, three walks, two runs scored and four stolen bases, and Dominguez had a hit, a run scored and an RBI.
