AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL: Wilder Senior wins opener; Wilder Junior begins season 3-0

Wilder Senior wins again Sunday night

PORT ANGELES — Wilder Senior began its 2025 season Sunday, getting great pitching performances from Colton Romero and Kody Williams in a 6-2 victory over Lakeside Legion 18U.

Romero, a 2024 Port Angeles High School graduate and Wilder veteran, now pitches for Skagit Valley College. He went 4⅔ innings, allowing five hits one earned run. He struck out four. Port Angeles’ Williams, who just wrapped up his high school season just a week ago, pitched the final 2⅓, allowing no hits and striking out four.

At the plate, a quartet of Sequim and Port Angeles sluggers did most of the damage.

Port Angeles’ Alex Angevine went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. His Roughriders teammate Luke Flodstrom went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

From Sequim, Braydan White went 2-for-3 with a run scored, two stolen bases and two RBIs, while his Wolves teamamte Ethan Staples went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Wilder Senior played Lakeside Legion 18U in a second game Sunday evening after press deadline. Details of that game will be on www.peninsuladailynews.com and in Tuesday’s sports section.

Wilder Junior

The Wilder Junior team began its season 3-0 with a sweep over Lakeside Recovery.

Wilder Junior won 13-3 and 4-3 on Saturday and 7-1 on Sunday.

In the three games, Wilder Junior pitchers allowed just 16 hits.

In Sunday’s win, Ethan Swenson was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs.

Bryce DeLeon started, going five innings and allowing five hits and one earned run. He struck out three. Swenson pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit and two strikeouts.

In the 13-3 win, Zach DeGray was 2-for-3 with a run score. Carson Waddell had a double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Logan Doyle also hit a double with two RBIs.

Owen Leitz started on the mound, going four innings and allowing four hits. He struck out five.

In the 4-3 win, Wilder Junior won on a walkoff on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the seventh. Hunter Tennell hit a triple and drove in a run.

Ian Smithson was 2-for-2 with four stolen bases. He scored all four of Wilder Junior’s runs. He also scored four runs in the earlier victory over Lakeside Recovery for eight runs on the day.

Carston Seibel started and went six innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs. Waddell got the victory, pitching a scoreless seventh with a strikeout.

Wilder Junior next plays at the Olympic College Invitational in Bremerton from Thursday through Sunday.
